AI Created Newsletter: Chat GPT

 AI Created Newsletter

This was my first attempt using AI. Overall, I know it is something I need to continue working on to perfect. At this moment, I would be quicker with creating something myself versus trying to make it correct every minor problem. I loved the ease of getting the information I wanted quickly. The shocking part is how it so easily took the role as if it were the librarian writing.

The topic I picked initially was “Why reading with your child is important?” This topic is always a constant need to explain to parents every year, all year long. I started this with ChatGPT and could create a newsletter with lots of trial and error.

While working on a class discussion board, someone mentioned a TikTok trend. It focuses on parents who do not talk to their babies (newborns to 3-year-olds). The level of agreement shown in the original video comments shocked me. If you search on TikTok, there are a lot of videos currently on it if you are curious about this debate. The original video was taken down, but there are others who are commenting back on it. I took this a step further, and I posted in a mom's group asking people how many of them talk to their child when they were a newborn to at least kinder. Then, of course, I thought about reading to relate it to this course. I asked how many read with their children or share make-believe stories. It was shocking, not only as a mom, but as a teacher, how many people said they did not know that they should talk to their babies, and how many said that reading was not part of a daily or weekly schedule. Many said that their child would pick up on talking from TV, or “because of Mrs. Rachel, my child is talking fine.” Don’t get me wrong; Mrs. Rachel is great, I just learned about her about a month ago when she came on Netflix. I have let my one-year-old watch her, but she is not the main communicator that my children hear. Like teachers know, technology is to enhance the learning that has been taught; it should not replace the teacher. A parent is a child’s first teacher. Oral development plays a huge role in learning how to read. It is a foundational skill for reading comprehension and literary development. It plays into their background knowledge and their vocabulary, manipulation of words, and so much more.

Something like this that is trending will cause people to look more into it. Like the training stated, this would play into being strategic and jumping into a hype. Putting a conversation like this would be great for my blog to make relevant, or part of this growing discussion. People follow trends, and this discussion is causing backlash, which brings in the curiosity of others. This curiosity sparks emotions of anger or agreement, which means it will be shared, and more people will be brought into this debate. The LinkedIn Learning training would consider this effective content because it increased the chance of gaining new traction. After all of this, I changed my topic search on ChatGPT to “how talking to your child helps them become a reader.”

Pros of using AI- ChatGPT

  • Quickly provides information that is on topic.

  • You can keep adding information that you want to the already given information.

  • It can help you write creative, engaging posts and copy quickly, which is essential for keeping up with the fast pace of social media.

  • The organization of the information is clean and able to be read clearly.

  • You can change the reading level of the information given if it uses terms that are too difficult.

  • The writing remained consistent, even when I changed topics. At times, I had to double-check which version I was editing.

  • Makes everything into a printable PDF, Canva, or Slides format if requested.

Cons of using AI-ChatGPT

  • You have to pay for it if you cannot get exactly what you need in the limited attempts. This was difficult for me. Due to limitations in the free version, I had to use multiple accounts to achieve my desired results. I worked on this for several days because there was always an error that needed to be fixed.

  • When asking it to create a printable flyer or pamphlet, all the information that was given turned into gibberish. The authors were mixed up in the books, spelling was all over the place, sentences made little sense, and trying to get it fixed with a limited account made it frustrating.

  • Processing of it, creating the image, and waiting time- this took anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours every time I tried. I do not know if this was a user error or maybe my internet cannot handle it, but I wanted to create it myself so I could get it done quicker.

Overall, I know I would need to experiment with using anything AI to get a better understanding of how to get exactly what I want from it. It can be frustrating when creating “images” because there still seems to be a disconnect with them. Getting facts and quick information is great, and I will try to use that more to see if it lines up with what I need or want.

This picture below is attempt 12. There are still errors, but this was my best-looking one.

This was another attempt that I became frustrated with. I had asked for a two-page printable, and it changed it completely to a math-themed paper.

Comments

  1. I liked the topic you chose highlighting the importance of families reading to and with their child. I do think there are pros and cons to Ai as of everything, the pros you outlined I agree with such as the time. How the Ai can complete jobs quickly with the information that is provided. However, a con I can see Ai having it doesn't really allow the user to be fully creative in original designs to making it really tailored to your school. However, it is a convenient tool for a librarian to use if they need create a newsletter quickly and clearly.
